Valspar Selects Cottage Door as 2027 Color of the Year

Your home is above all a personal space, and the color a homeowner selects reflects their own tastes. In many cases, people are looking for a more natural feel to create a sense of calm and honesty. With that in mind, Valspar’s color experts selected Cottage Door 8004-38E, a mid-tone blue, as its 2027 Color of the Year.

Sue Kim, director of color marketing at Valspar, says that as part of the forecasting process, Valspar examines the intersection of culture, design and consumer behavior, and then selects the color that best reflects and resonates with the shifts it found through its research. 

“Selecting Cottage Door 8004-38E as Valspar’s 2027 Color of the Year is a deliberate reflection of the continuing consumer shift toward emotionally resonant color,” Kim adds. “In a world shaped by curated perfection and constant stimulation, there is a growing desire for spaces that feel honest, grounded and personal.” 

Kim points out that Cottage Door is a neutral mid-tone blue with both warm and cool undertones, meaning it’s incredibly versatile. It is equally at home for interior and exterior spaces.

“Cottage Door captures blue’s natural sense of security and trust while serving as a colorful new neutral that layers effortlessly into the home. For interiors, it works especially well in spaces designed to feel cozy and restorative, such as bedrooms, home offices and living rooms. It can be used on walls, in a mural or through color drenching, and pairs beautifully with light woods, woven textures and warm metals,” says Kim.

Kim notes that Cottage Door pairs nicely with Valspar’s recent Color of the Year selections, including Sage Slate V143-5, its 2026 Color of the Year choice.
